Welcome to the home of
Mr. Sawmill's unique, efficient design has features not found on other mills
Boys loading a small log at
Scugog Lake Camp.
Right - Dave cutting, the mist to the left is the sawdust being expelled through the
protective guards.
Features: - "Some mills have some*, some have none, but none have all" ( *the more expensive ones )
'I' Frame power head, much stronger
by design than the common 'C' frame head, therefore it can be made much lighter using less
steel. A lighter power head is easier to crank up. A lighter carriage is
easier to push back and forth, and a lighter mill is easier to move about. The
entire mill has been engineered for lightness without sacrificing strength*.
Although it can easily handle a 2000 pound log, Dave, who is 56, can walk it around
the yard or even down the street by himself!

19" Band Wheels Independent tests have shown that the blades we use will not suffer metal fatigue (before their cutting life is over) if the band wheels are greater than 18", therefore our band wheels are 19" in diameter. Our experience has concurred with these tests. Between several machines and after years of sawing, our blades always wear out long before they show any signs of metal fatigue or crazing.
The Motor directly drives the band wheel the most efficient design, and saving the cost of additional drive pulleys, and belt slipping engagement mechanisms. The full power of the 13 HP motor is transmitted to the blade, cutting more wood with less fuel. The drive belt never slips during startup, therefore it lasts much longer. Putting the motor pulley directly between the band wheels enables a narrower carriage, allowing a longer log to be cut for any given bed length. It also allows the motor pulley and belt to support the upper part of the blade in the center, preventing excessive blade vibration. And, almost all of the motor vibration is absorbed by a unique "loose fit padded" tube and rod design.
Instant blade tensioner arm allows the blade to be slack when the mill isn't running. The normal tension for a band saw mill blade is about 2000 pounds or more. Most (affordable) mills keep this tension on all the time which can lead to blade stretching and premature failure. Also, the blade is held in two places and each place holds the blade on top and underneath so this mill can make straight cuts with a blade tension of just a few hundred pounds or less.
Quick, 'all position' log dogs can be clamped almost anywhere on the log with just a quick push of a lever. They move straight up and down as well as left and right and don't leave a piercing "bite hole" in the log or sawn cant. No cranking a screw into the log, the log is clamped in seconds.
Plus many more, including trailer towing kit, taper compensator, 5 gallon visible coolant bottle, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: The above Model 1 Mr. Sawmill has been replaced by the new Model II, which is even more efficient with all of the above features and many more. Check out the Model II Page.
